RENÉE-CLAUDE
POLAR GUIDE
RENÉE-CLAUDE
POLAR GUIDE

Inspired by SELAR’s spirit of exploration, Renée-Claude Bastien embodies a human, immersive, and deeply authentic approach to northern adventure. A true outdoor all-rounder, she brings years of experience leading and guiding expeditions across some of the most remote and untamed territories on Earth.

A polar ski, snowmobile, dog sledding, trekking, sea kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddle guide, she moves confidently through environments where adaptability, versatility, and leadership are essential. She has notably served as expedition leader on polar ski crossings in Nunavik, northern Québec, as well as on trekking and exploration projects stretching from the Yukon to Alaska, through Baffin Island, the Canadian High Arctic, and Greenland.

Through every expedition, Renée-Claude’s goal is above all to create experiences that bring people together. For her, adventure is a gateway to human connection, wonder, and the creation of meaningful moments that leave a lasting impact. Whether it is a sunrise over an Arctic fjord, a silent crossing through frozen landscapes, or an unexpected challenge transformed into an unforgettable memory, she believes these shared moments are what give travel its deepest meaning

On board SELAR, she hopes to share this passion for the North and offer travelers an experience that goes far beyond traditional adventure: an invitation to slow down, observe, feel, and reconnect with the living world.
Far from fixed itineraries, she sees each expedition as a story to be built collectively, shaped by nature, encounters, and the unexpected.

ANTOINE
POLAR GUIDE - CAPTAIN ARCTIC EXPERT

A young polar guide passionate about the Arctic and purposeful travel, Antoine moves between land expeditions and sailing journeys.

A sailor and true sea lover, he places great importance on slow travel, self-sufficiency, and life in remote environments. Sailing deeply shapes the way he explores the world and approaches guiding: adapting to the elements, embracing team spirit, and seeking adventure.

Drawn to northern territories from an early age, he also has a strong interest in wildlife and the history of major polar expeditions, which continue to inspire his vision of travel and exploration.

His approach favors small groups, the simplicity of everyday life in expedition settings, and a deep connection with the landscapes and environments encountered along the way.
Between skiing, bivouacking, sailing, and immersion in cold regions, his goal is above all to create meaningful, authentic human experiences closely connected to the field.

NATURALIST & GEOLOGIST GUIDE - CAPTAIN ARCTIC EXPERT

Naturalist guide and geologist, Élodie is passionate about exploring remote territories where nature reveals itself in its rawest and most powerful form.

Drawn to polar regions, mineral landscapes, and untouched environments, her work is driven by a deep fascination for the forces that shape the Earth and our relationship with the living world.

Through each expedition, she seeks to share more than adventure alone. Combining scientific understanding, field experience, and immersive exploration, she creates meaningful experiences that reconnect people with nature. Whether reading the history written in rock formations or navigating through Arctic and Antarctic landscapes, her approach invites a deeper awareness of the environments that surround us.

She strongly believes that wild spaces have the power to slow us down, awaken our senses, and reshape the way we perceive our place on Earth.
By sharing the raw beauty and fragility of polarenvironments, she opens the door to wonder and remembrance – where the vastness of the outsideworld becomes a journey inward.

EXPEDITION LEADER, POLAR GUIDE & ARCTIC ENTREPRENEUR
YANN
EXPEDITION LEADER, POLAR GUIDE & ARCTIC ENTREPRENEUR

Yann first set foot on Svalbard in 2006, at eighteen, on a three-month ski expedition. He never really left, and the Arctic has shaped his life ever since.

He studied Arctic biology at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) and trained as a certified Arctic Nature Guide. He made the archipelago his home for over a decade, guiding on skis, foot and snowmobile, and at sea from Greenland to Antarctica and South Georgia. He still lives and works on Svalbard much of each year, happiest when the sun returns after the long polar night.

In the field, he goes where the wind takes him, with safety setting the only limit. The Arctic keeps no schedule, and the unhurried moments are the ones he brings to life for his guests, from the crackle of drifting ice to the light catching the blue of a glacier front.

Along the way he founded Arctic Edge in 2013, a Svalbard-born wool brand drawn from his years in the polar field.

A WORD FROM THE CAPTAIN

"I’ve spent 10 years sailing the Arctic, and despite the luxury of past cruises, something was missing. With just the crew, we ventured off the beaten path, but with guests, we followed set itineraries and missed the essence of travel.

I envisioned something different: expeditions on smaller, autonomous sailing ships, led by a passionate crew ready to share their love for the Arctic. No fixed routes—just true exploration.

We’ll witness whales, icebergs, auroras, and bears, engaging with local communities without treating them as mere attractions. We’ll respect and nurture these ecosystems. Yes, there will be surprises and challenges along the way, but isn't that half the fun?"

— Sophie Galvagnon, Selar’s CEO
